What we’re about

Welcome to our Creative Writers' Lunchbox!

Our Meetup is for anyone interested in meeting with people who like to write creatively. We practise writing creatively using prompts and exercises. One prompt you do at home. The prompt might be a newspaper headline: "The mystery of disappearing gnomes in Hasting now explained." You might write up a report on an interview with a radicalised gnome who led all the gnomes in Hastings on a strike. The second exercise one in which you have 6 minutes to write about what you see in a photo that is provided.

We meet in person or you can take part online.
Whether you are wanting to develop your writing skills for a personal project or to brush up on writing for work, or just for fun, we welcome all levels and backgrounds.

Each session you can expect to do some writing exercises and to read out your work to the group if you wish. There is no pressure to do so.

From time to time we have special guest speakers on writing topics. Twice a year we produce a zines, or self produced electronic journals that include selected writings from those members who would like to contribute. The zine is sent to the Auckland City Library and the National Library among other places, so you might get read widely!
