Reading Short Stories - Our Own and Others
Details
For centuries, short stories have been one of the most powerful works of literary art. It is easy to overlook them, as though they are somehow "less valuable" than the novel. That is a mistake,
There are two basic ideas underlying this event, One idea is to read great short stories and discuss and learn from them. What makes a great short story? How can we write great short stories?
We will start with a wonderful short story from The New Yorker which is entitled "Mother of Men" by Lauren Groff. I will email you a scan of the story a couple of weeks beforehand.
The second idea of this meeting is to provide an opportunity for our members to share their stories and get feedback. Share something you have written; I will scan it and send it out. We will all read it and provide you with affirming and positive feedback. Dare to share.
Lets see if idea this generates any interest. We can have online participants, We can organise another time if this doesn't suit. Lets see if we can get six starters
