Orlando Word Lab

Details
This is a writing workshop that will focus on learning a new technique or method each month. A guest speaker will share a sample of their work and then give a writing prompt for everyone to follow.
We'll all write for 30 minutes, and then share our work with others, and receive helpful suggestions about what to improve. Bring your laptops, tablets, or notebook and pen and a willingness to learn.
We will meet on the 4th Wednesday of every month.
This month, Selys Rivera will teach us about creative nonfiction writing. Creative nonfiction is true to the best of your ability, but as an author, you take creative liberties to liven up the memory into a story. You use the same kind of creative language you'd use in fiction, but just apply it to your memory.
Selys Rivera's the author of "An Unconscious Mestiza: A Collection of Memoir Stories." Her essay, "I Love You Infinity," received an Honorable Mention Award in the 2012 Boston Globe Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. You'll find her reading, coloring in her adult coloring book, and with Ketchup (her red Dachshund).
