W.W.A Presents: "Love as a Cultural Critique"

Details
Hey Writers! Join us for our fourth meeting this year on Sunday, November 24, 2024 from 1-3pm at Powered by Us studio. We will examine how cultural norms and societal expectations influence our understanding and experience of love. We will also discuss ways we see love depicted in literature, film and media.
Mandatory reading: Chapters 6-7 of bell hooks, All About Love
Think about:
How does the media affect the way we see love?
Do you think as a society we can rise above the patriarchy and experience love?
How does fear play a part in how we love as a society?
What does literature and media show us about love through its stories?
We will also begin workshopping our writing in DECEMBER! Please begin gathering potential pieces that you want workshopped. We will workshop pieces that reflect our annual theme of Love. We will workshop poetry, short fiction, creative nonfiction, essays and screenplays. All bodies of work shouldn’t surpass three pages in length and must include a name, date & title. Works must be approved to workshop a week prior. We will discuss this in detail at our next meeting on 11/24.
Members will have access to a free digital copy of bell hooks', All About Love as well as other supplemental readings!
