For more than 50 years, The Dayton Microcomputer Association, Inc. (DMA), a 501 (c) (3) Non-profit, All-volunteer, Social Service Organization, most commonly known as a Computer User Group, has been educating people interested in technology.
Founded in April 1976, the DMA is one of the oldest continuously meeting computer user groups in the world and is the oldest in Southern Ohio. The DMA's mission is to promote interest in and knowledge of all facets of computer technology, to encourage education in computing technologies, and to provide a medium for communication between individuals, product developers, and the public.
The Dayton Microcomputer Association, Inc. (DMA) holds an online/in-person monthly General Meeting on the last Tuesday of each month (except in December) about various technology topics.

Title: MeshTastic and MeshCore text-messaging software works on small hardware
This General Meeting presentation, offered by the Dayton Microcomputer Association, Inc. (DMA), covers an off-grid text messaging system that uses MeshTastic and MeshCore software on inexpensive hardware. MeshTastic and MeshCore form a network passing messages from one node to another. This radio-based system uses the LoRa protocol in a non-licensed portion of the radio spectrum. It uses the low-power industrial, scientific, and medical (ISM) band.
Meshtastic and MeshCore have become very popular over the last year. After starting with only one or two, we currently have over 250 nodes in the Dayton area. The system has expanded globally and now has thousands of nodes.
We have been learning about this system at the Single Board Computer SIG because the software we address is based on small microcontroller hardware.
About the Presenter:
Dave Schwab has generously served the DMA for many years, in many positions, including DMA President, Single Board Computer SIG Leader, and even the DMA’s former BBS sysop. He also has done a great job cooking hamburgers and tube steaks at numerous annual DMA picnics.
