Windows PC Software Tracking and Updating
Do you ever wonder what software is installed on your computer? Have you ever tried to keep a list of the programs you’ve installed on your computer under Windows? It’s not easy, and if you’re like me, you don’t have that list. But you’d like to have such a list the next time you upgrade or change computers, wouldn’t you? That way, you can reinstall the programs you use. This month, we’ll talk about some of the software and tools you can use to make and keep that list. This will be especially useful if you’re someone who is planning to upgrade your computer from Windows 10 to Windows 11 before the Windows 10 End-of-Life Support date this October 2025. I showed the PatchMyPC program about a year and a half ago, but they’ve since released an updated version that supports even more programs. I’ll also mention some of the Uninstall programs that will clean up uninstalls on Windows.
Speaker Info
Michael Stock - is a separated Air Force Captain bioenvironmental engineer of 12 years who also served as a civilian environmental engineer with the Air Force for 26 years. During his career, he worked with hazardous materials and hazardous waste databases. In 1968, he stumbled into the first computer training lab being set up by the Kansas City, Missouri, school district the summer before he started high school. There he learned APL (A Programming Language) and started programming.
He visited many computer user groups in the Kansas City area while searching for his first computer. When home computers were introduced in the late 1970s, he was looking for his first. Picking a unique one, the Exidy Sorcerer, which was advertised to eventually have APL, he continued to visit multiple system user groups.
Continuing to participate in computer user groups as he moved about the country, for his jobs with the Air Force (Kansas City, Dayton, Austin, San Antonio, and back to Dayton), Michael was a member of DMA in the early 1980s and has returned as a regular member of the Genealogy SIG. Michael is a member of the DMA Board of Trustees and serves as the DMA’s Vice President.
