Presentation Topic: Designing a robot with CAD and used by BONDS

The discussion is offered by the BONDS (Bringing Opportunities Near Dayton Students) Team, which is returning to the DMA to talk more about their team, and how they use Computers and Applications within their sub-teams. This presentation will focus on how they use Computer Aided Design (CAD).

BONDS, team 5811, is a FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) team. They are a group of talented, outgoing students and our goal is to advance STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) all over our Dayton Community.

For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology (FIRST) is an not-for-profit international youth organization that organizes competitions such as the FIRST Robotics Competition, the FIRST Tech Challenge, and FIRST LEGO League Challenge (FIRST, n.d. b).

Their mission is to bring STEAM opportunities to students in the local community through robotics. In our build season, students design, manufacture, and build a robot that will compete in a sports-like challenge against other national and international teams.

FIRST was founded by Dean Kamen on March 20, 1989 in Manchester, New Hampshire FIRST emphasizes “friendly sportsmanship, respect for the contributions of others, teamwork, learning, and community involvement” (FIRST, n.d. b). Their core values include discovery, innovation, impact, inclusion, teamwork, and fun (FIRST, n.d. b).

All DMA General Meetings are hybrid, free, and open to the public. All Special Interest Group (SIG) meetings are free and open to the public and some are hybrid. There may be admission charges for meetings sponsored by others where DMA volunteers or members are presenters or guests.
