The War of the Worlds-H. G. Wells
Details
The War of the Worlds chronicles the events of a Martian invasion as experienced by an unidentified male narrator and his brother. A cylinder crashes to earth containing 2 Martians who obliterate some people with heat rays. More cylinders appear and a war breaks out with the local military. Then the story shifts to the brother's viewpoint. While the war is going on around them, many people continue their day to day existence as if there is no threat.
