🎙️About the talks:
Unlearning the Ladder: Why I Went Back to Being an Analyst
Most career advice in data points in one direction: go more technical, more senior, then leadership. Last year I went the other way: from Senior Analytics Engineer to Product Analyst, and it's the best career decision I've made.
I'll talk about how I ended up in analytics engineering mostly for reasons other than what I'm actually good at, and how long it took me to tell the difference between "this is hard because I'm still learning" and "this is hard because it's not how my brain works." I'll share the framework I use now to judge whether a role fits me, and why going sideways opened more doors than another year of climbing would have.
For anyone quietly wondering if there's a version of this career that fits them better, this one is for you.
How LLMS Changed My Job and the Fraudsters' Too
Over the past five years, LLMs have transformed both AI engineering and research integrity. In this talk, I’ll explore two parallel shifts: how the role of an AI engineer has evolved, and how working in research integrity at Springer Nature has changed as fraudsters adopt generative AI to manipulate scholarly publishing. I’ll also discuss how our approaches to detecting and preventing misuse have evolved in response, as we work to protect trust in science.
