About us
XR Initiative is a collective of XR/VR events for Brighton and Sussex. Hosted by Julian Weaver (Finetuned), Bowen Tan & Echo Cui (Tell Me Lemon).
Our aim is to bring XR/VR and related technologies to the fore in an interesting and engaging way.
Our events take place on a monthly basis to offer keynote talks, workshops and show & tell evenings.

Making it with Blender #2
Wrap Co-Working, 83 Queens Rd, Brighton, GBMaking it with Blender #2 is the next event in our new making it… series where we dive into essential tools and technologies.
In this event, Blender artists will pull back the curtain on how they build their work - sharing a mix of workflows, tools, happy accidents, and hard-won lessons behind their scenes and experiences.
Expect a friendly mix of short showcases and process talks, with plenty of time for questions, conversation, and meeting fellow makers across VR/XR, realtime, and 3D - whether you’re brand new to Blender or deep in your node graphs already.
Speakers include Katy Smith, and Ben Wildi.
Katy Smith
Katy teaches Blender, works as a freelance 3D artist and is a 2025 G50 winner (art category).Katy will take us through her experiences while teaching herslef 3D in Blender, some tips and helpful add-ons as well as a brief look at the workflow in her most recent and biggest project so far.

Ben Wildi
Ben is a freelance, Brighton-based digital artist working across 3D, motion design, compositing, sound design and creative editing with 10+ years experience in the industry.Holy Plastic is the creative identity of Ben Wildi, blending vapor-brutalist aesthetics with technical precision across 3D and 2D pipelines.
