**Exploring the Core of XR: A Technical Deep Dive with Amanda Watson**

We’re excited to welcome **Amanda Watson**, former Meta/Oculus engineer and original creator of Air Link, to speak at our upcoming event. Amanda will be presenting:

**XR Runtime Dissection: How Native Runtimes Shape Our Apps**

Alongside Amanda’s in-depth talk, attendees will also have the chance to try out a Quest 3 passthrough API demo with ChatGPT integration, and connect with others working across Japan’s XR ecosystem. As always, snacks and drinks will be available.

**About the Speaker:**
Amanda Watson is an XR software engineer with a deep technical background in virtual reality systems. During her nearly seven years at Oculus, she contributed to major product releases such as Gear VR, Oculus Go, Quest, and Oculus Link—and is best known as the original creator of Air Link, Meta’s wireless PC VR solution.

Since transitioning to independent work, Amanda has continued to innovate in the XR space with projects like CitraVR, a stereoscopic VR version of the Nintendo 3DS emulator. She remains deeply engaged in the XR developer community and is passionate about helping others understand the underlying systems that power immersive tech.

**Talk Overview**
XR Runtime Dissection: How Native Runtimes Shape Our Apps
Beneath every XR engine and application lies a native runtime—an invisible but essential foundation that enables developers to build immersive experiences. This talk will:

* Examine how XR development would function without a runtime layer
* Break down the challenges these systems solve, from pose prediction to frame composition
* Explore the evolution from VrApi and OpenVR to OpenXR
* Explain how understanding these systems can unlock new creative and technical possibilities for developers

This talk is ideal for developers, engineers, and anyone curious about what makes XR systems work.

**Demo: Quest 3 Passthrough + AI Integration**

Amanda will also be presenting a live demo of a native Quest 3 application using the latest passthrough access API, integrated with ChatGPT. This demo provides a practical look at how XR devices can blend real-world awareness with conversational AI in new and meaningful ways.

There are no special requirements to experience the demo.
