Doughton Park: Basin Creek Trail to Caudill Cabin

Details
Total Miles: 9.4
Elevation Gain: 1633ft
Difficulty: Moderate
Please join me for a hike along the Basin Creek trail out in the Bluff Mountain valley of Doughton Park. This pleasantly moderate hike will be 9.4 miles in length with 1633.9ft of elevation gain and will run parallel to Basin Creek, which we will cross approximately 30 times (in some capacity or another)!!!
This makes for a perfectly wet summer hike along the Basin Creek trail. As we pass through, we will follow Grassy Gap fire road to the Primitive Campground, then proceed along the Basin Creek trail towards Caudill Cabin.
We will tread through a valley with a rich history, dotted by the ruins of old homesteads that once stood there - and experience the awe of the lost village of Basin Cove and the inspiring story of a family pulled from a flood long ago.
After the hike, I intend to hold a social hour at the Railyard in the nearby town of Elkin for good beer and ecclectic food from their food truck and I would love for all to join me who can. 9.4 miles, 1633 ft elev. [R-26]
