Please join me for a weekend of backpacking just outside of Morganton, NC for an early fall trip. This will only be two days and 1 night making it perfect for beginner backpackers or for anyone who would like to get a feel for the backpacking world.
Day 1: Begin at Jacob’s Fork parking area on Sat at 11AM. We will hike up Chestnut Knob for a spectacular view of the Piedmont plateau and surrounding Catawba Valley. We’ll proceed along the Sawtooth and Horse Ridge trails and make our way to the Fox Trail campground. We’ll camp at Fox trail for the night.
Day 2: We will return to the cars via the Upper Falls and River trails (provided they are open) and go for a swim at Big Bear Falls (provided it is open as well).
South Mountains State Park suffered extensive damage during Helene and this will be an excellent way to support them!
