Day Hike: Hanging Rock - Indian Creek & Moore’s Knob

Details
Type of Outing: Day Hike
Total Distance: 14 miles
Total Elevation Gain: 2464ft
Pacing: 2.7-3mph
Difficulty: Strenuous
Among the hidden hollows and dales of Hanging Rock State Park lies this classic tributary of the Dan River – the Indian Creek. This hike will have us beginning at the nice and smooth graveled road at the end of Flinchum Rd and will have us ascending Moore’s Knob from far down below. We will hike up by the rushing falls hidden by the grace of the rhododendrons and mountain laurels.
We’ll climb all the way to the top of Moore’s Knob where we’ll enjoy a breathtaking view of the surrounding landscape and have lunch there before making our way back down the way we came. Please bring poles for creek crossings and be prepared to enjoy a gorgeous day at gem of an NC State Park.
After the hike, I’d love for those who are so inclined to join me at the Green Heron Alehouse for a crisp trail-cap.
