Ever walked through the woods and wondered what stories the landscape might be hiding?

Join me for a unique interpretive hike through Stone Mountain State Park where we’ll explore the hidden history of moonshining in the foothills of the Blue Ridge. Tucked throughout these forests are remnants of old moonshine still sites—some small, personal operations and others that once produced liquor on a surprisingly large scale.

Over the course of the day, we’ll hike roughly 8 miles through one of the most beautiful areas of northwest North Carolina while stopping at several still sites to talk about how geography, water, and rugged terrain helped shape an underground economy that once thrived throughout Wilkes, Surry, and Yadkin counties.

This hike blends adventure, local history, and storytelling—perfect for hikers who enjoy learning something new while exploring the outdoors.
