What we’re about
The Edmonton area has many hidden gems for stand up paddleboarding. We try to explore as many lakes and rivers in Edmonton and the surrounding area, and organize a few more adventurous paddles each year as well. As titled, the group is primarily aimed at SUP, but if you bring a different paddle craft, no one will stop you. Always looking for more people willing to organize paddles so that there are more events of interest to everyone.
Group size may be limited for logistical or safety reasons. Unless explicitly identified as a guided tour or a lesson, the paddles are not a guided tour or a lesson. I (Chad) am a Paddle Canada certified instructor, but other organizers may not be. We paddle in groups and are expected to collectively look out for each other.
Everyone is responsible for assessing their skill level and the conditions before hitting the water. To help with this, most events will specify the level of paddling experience recommended. Many are open to all skill levels, but longer paddles or paddles in more turbulent conditions will have a higher recommended skill level.
For those without a paddleboard: discounted SUP rentals will be available at some events (provided by Chad Has A Paddle). Formal SUP lessons ($$) will be offered ahead of some events as well.
Lastly, but not least important: Safety is paramount! PFDs and leashes are required and we will have a pre-paddle safety check-in before hitting the water.
