Mount Stirling Day Trip 20/07/2025

Details

Suitable for skiers who have intermediate level experience. This trip is not suitable for people who have limited or no skiing experience.

To attend this trip, please complete this trip questionnaire.

The questionnaire will ask you several important questions - some are safety related, others are to assist with the logistics. We'll try to match up drivers with passengers, so be clear about how much space you have in your vehicle (for people and ski gear).

We'll meet in the Mansfield Bakery by 8:30am. This will mean leaving Melbourne at around 06:30am or earlier.

In Mansfield, we'll regroup into cars to go up the mountain (if necessary), pay the trip fee to the Trip Leader and buy lunch if you haven’t already brought it along. There is a resort entrance fee of $67 per car. Details are here. The resort entrance fee is to be shared amongst all skiers in each car. We're aiming to be on the snow by 10.00am and skiing until mid-afternoon.

Skis and chains can be hired in Mansfield - recommend pre-booking a couple of days in advance or hiring in Melbourne beforehand. You will need metal-edged skis.

Drivers: It is compulsory to carry and fit, where directed, snow chains during the declared snow season. The fines for non-compliance are eye watering.

You will need:

  • Appropriate clothing which means NO JEANS/COTTON PANTS. Instead make sure you have...
    - Waterproof coat and pants
    - Warm mid-layers (wind and/or water resistant)
    - Thermals (wool/polypro best underneath)
    - Gloves, beanie, scarf or balaclava
  • Sunscreen, sunglasses and/or goggles
  • Skis, boots and poles if you already have them
  • Optional: a small foam mat to sit on, thermos

You may want to tape your heels beforehand (and keep it with you) if you are prone to blisters/hot spots.

Note: if you turn up without suitable clothing and gear, you will not be permitted to attend.

Fee: $10. Other costs include ski hire and chain hire (per car, to be shared), gate entry and fuel costs. Club rules suggest dividing petrol costs by the number of people in a car and doubling as an appropriate maximum amount to pay your driver - this helps take into account maintenance costs and the wear and tear of alpine driving.

Aim is to leave Mt Stirling by 3.00pm and be back in Melbourne by about 7.00pm.
