Ancestral Connections Workshop, Beltane Edition. Sing in Scottish Gaelic!
Details
Hello, My Friend!
Welcome to my Ancestral Song Connections Workshop, Beltaine Edition! This will be my fifth workshop of this kind, and this time we'll be learning to sing in Scottish Gaelic, or Gàidligh, as they say it. Lucky for us, this workshop also falls right inside the Beltaine portal, so there will be a special flower altar and, venue permitting, some FIRE, though it may be limited to a candle or two.
YOU WILL NEED TO PURCHASE A TICKET TO ENTER THE EVENT!
This workshop is for folx who want to connect with their Scottish Ancestry, and learn to sing in the language of their people. The intention is to connect with the Ancient Scottish lineage, and, for those of us who carry that heritage, to reconnect with our own ancestral traditions, languages, and melodies.
In this sweet container, we will build a collective altar - bring flowers, ancestral objects, family photos, crystals, anything that feels sacred, ancestral, or seasonally appropriate to charge up! It is Beltaine, after all! We'll take a bit of time to share our altar offerings with the group, then move into a guided meditation. I will drum and speak us into connection with the Scottish Ancestors for about 15-20 minutes. There will be time to journal afterwards.
And then, with our hearts and mind connected to the ancient Scottish Peoples, we'll learn to sing a song in Gàidligh! The tune is a traditional wool waulking song titled Gaol Ise Gaol, and is about a couple in love, and about to have their first child. Waulking songs are ancient Scottish working songs, intended to keep pace and rhythm and to entertain while working wool into softness. You might have seen a version on Outlander. 😉 I thought it appropriate for the themes of Beltaine; fertility and celebration.
Once we learn the song, we'll have a circle dance around the room, and the altar, in celebration of Beltaine and all the Holi-day brings!
For this event you will need:
-Altar items (see above listed suggestions)
-Journal and pen
-Water Bottle
-Optional snacks to share (please only partake if you bring something!)
-An open heart and mind
Ready to connect with the Scottish Ancestral Line? Let's make it happen, babes! I will see you there!
