Breathe and Meditate

Details

We will practise the ancient breathing techniques and guided meditation, for about 45 minutes then enjoy savasana.
This is a great way to de-stress yourself, improve memory function, concentration and get better sleep. Plus afterward you feel super calm with heightened sensory awareness. Its awesometimes.
Here is a brief description of one of the techniques we will practise every week:

Alternate nostril breathing (nadi shodhanam) is a simple breathing exercise that purifies the nadis, or subtle energy channels in the body. It balances the flow of breath in the nostrils and the flow of subtle energy in the nadis. The physical body is built around the subtle framework of the nadis and is sustained by the flow of pranic energy through this network.

Patanjali, the sage who codified yoga science around 200 B.C., explains that the control of prana is the regulation of inhalation and exhalation.

This practice quietens the mind and regulates the breath by establishing slow, even breathing without a pause between inhalation and exhalation.

The three principle energy channels flowing in the spinal cord are ida, pingala, and sushumna. The ida and pingala channels correspond with the feminine/lunar and masculine/solar natures.

By balancing these energy channels, sushumna, the central channel, can be awakened leading the mind to stillness, joy, and meditation.
