Winter is the perfect season to explore the forested hills around Kamakura.
On this hike, we’ll explore one of my favorite Kamakura trails: the ancient Asahina Kiridoshi Pass. Starting at Juniso Shrine, we’ll enter what was once the busiest gateway to the city—now a quiet, overgrown path lost to history. Along the way, we’ll pass a serene waterfall, narrow mountain cut-throughs, and the occasional yagura cave. There is much to explore for the observant adventurer.
For our return, we’ll take an alternative mountain route that leads past the hidden Kumano Shrine, a peaceful spot tucked away beneath towering trees.
This hike is a great choice for anyone interested in Kamakura’s rich past. While the trail is occasionally narrow, it’s not particularly challenging, making for an enjoyable and immersive walk.
We'll also take a lunch break, so please bring your own bento or packed lunch.
After the hike, those who wish can unwind with a warm cup of coffee at a cozy café nearby.

冬は、鎌倉周辺の森に覆われた丘を散策するのに最適な季節だ。
今回のハイキングでは、私の大好きな鎌倉のコースのひとつ、古代の朝比奈切通しを探索する。十二所神社からスタートし、かつては最も賑やかだった鎌倉の玄関口に入る。途中、静かな滝、狭い山道、時折現れるやぐらの洞窟などを通過する。観察力の鋭い冒険家にとっては、探検するものがたくさんある。
帰りは、木立の中にひっそりと佇む隠れた名所、熊野神社を通る別の山道を行く。
このハイキングコースは、鎌倉の豊かな過去に興味がある人にお勧めのコースだ。トレイルは時折狭くなるものの、特に難しい道ではないので、楽しく没頭できるウォーキングになる。
昼食休憩も取りますので、お弁当をご持参ください。
ハイキングの後は、ご希望の方は近くのカフェで温かいコーヒーを飲みながらくつろいでください。
