How can we reduce digital CO₂ emissions, even if we’re not developers?
As AI and data use continue to grow, electricity demand from data centres is expected to more than double by 2030 (*1). Websites and online businesses are expected to become greener, but what makes many current ones problematic?
In this event, we’ll try some simple steps to assess and critique the environmental impact of websites. No technical skills are needed. The organiser is a writer and web content editor, so we would really love support from tech-savvy participants too!
Join us. Let's think and share opinions. Knowledge-to-Action! 🧑💻👩🏻💻🧑🎨
What will we do
- Use an easy checklist to assess a few websites
- Discuss what causes high environmental impact
- Share ideas on how websites can be improved
Note
- This is a simple, high-level assessment from different angles. It's an experiment, not a technical audit, as "sustainable web design" is still an evolving idea. However, you can expect to gain ideas on how to spot areas for improvement!
- We’re not doing deep technical reviews like testers and ESG investors do😀
