Weekend Away: Alnwick, Northumberland

Alnwick is a medieval market town ideally situated to explore the coast, countryside & castles of Northumberland.

The main attractions within Alnwick are the Castle & Gardens plus Barter Books – the largest second-hand bookstore in Europe - all are within a five minute walk from our accomodation.

Booking Conditions:

All subsequent comms. regarding this event will be sent by Group e-mail via the Meet-Up system. Please check your Meet-Up profile settings to ensure you are able to receive BOTH notifications AND messages from myself (‘Organiser’). Bear in mind you may be unable to complete any updates to your profile via a mobile phone.

Initially when you RSVP, you will be diverted to a waiting list, regardless of how many places are available at the time. This is to ensure I can take into account the male/female split and allocate rooms after taking into account a number of considerations. It also ensures people have a ‘reasonable’ time (ten days) to RSVP.

The White Swan is a 300 year old coaching inn, set in the heart of the historic market town of Alnwick.

‘Our Olympic Suite Restaurant is an exceptional experience. You will find yourself surrounded by the original panelling, mirrors, ceiling and stained glass from RMS Olympic, the Titanic’s sister ship’.

Tables will be reserved for both breakfasts & evening meals.

Room Types: Double or Twin plus a double room can be booked for sole occupancy.

Costs:

Room type:
The rooms are on three floors and come in various styles & sizes. Please consider & advise on the following:

* Do you prefer a ground floor room? The hotel does not have a lift !
* Do you have a particular preference for a bath or a walk-in shower?
* Is there any particular person you would like to share with?
* Would you prefer (if possible) a room for sole occupancy? If yes, please let me know (in confidence) if there is a particular reason for your request so I can take this into account.

Room tariff:
Double £165 per room per night
Twin £165 per room per night
Single occupancy £125 per night

Breakfasts and three course evening meals included plus free parking either at the hotel or across the road in the public car park.

Booking fee: £15. This covers the cost of organising the weekend and includes the usual walk fees. This should be added to the cost quoted above and paid at the same time as the deposit.

This ‘package deal’ is ideal for budgeting purposes as all you need to consider in addition is your packed lunch for Saturday’s walk, car park fees at the walk locations & beer money!

Walks:

See separate entries on the website. Both walks involve a 20/30 minute car journey from the hotel. As you will note, car sharing is highly recommended given the extortionate parking fees although both walks have the ‘possibility’ of roadside parking. The walks have been chosen taking into account the ‘mixed abilities’ within the Group.

Booking/Cancellation terms:

10% deposit is required by 8th November and, once this is paid over to the Hotel, is non-refundable. Therefore, you can only expect a refund to be paid if a suitable replacement can be arranged to take your place.

The booking fee covers my costs and therefore, as with the deposit, will only be refunded if there is someone suitable to take your place.

No monies received by me will be paid over to the venue until I am obliged to do so.

Final balances are payable 12 weeks in advance; I’ll send out a reminder at the appropriate time.

Once we are 56 days from arrival date, the Hotel’s cancellation charges will apply. The charges will steadily increase, the closer we get to arrival date. All funds are non-refundable if you cancel 28 days or less prior to arrival.

The only exception to the above is if someone is available and suitable to take your place, which of course will be increasingly unlikely the nearer we get to the arrival date.

RSVP to be added to the Waiting List; places will be allocated in ten days time (15/10/2023). If initially unsuccessful, you will remain on the WL pending any withdrawals from the event.

If successful, you will be asked to transfer the deposit funds & booking fee to me by internet transfer by the deadline date of 8th November.
