Swallow Falls, Betws-y-Coed

Details

THIS WALK IS BEING LED FOR THOSE ON THE NORTH WALES BREAK AND IS FOR INFORMATION ONLY. THERE IS NO NEED TO RSVP AND NO WALK FEE IS PAYABLE.

A pleasant, short walk starting from Pont-y-Pair bridge at the top end of Betws-y-Coed. Toilets at the start of the walk (50p).

We soon drop down to the riverbank and follow the Afon Llugwy upstream towards the Falls, traipsing through the extensive Gwydyr Forest Park and meadows to reach the dramatic Miners Bridge. We won’t be crossing it but if you feel a bit 'darish', you can walk along it before we resume our walk.

From this point, we embark on the one challenging bit of the walk: a short, steep climb to reach a minor road, eventually taking a left fork to delve back into the woodland before finally reaching the Falls viewpoint.

This was a peaceful walk with few people encountered as the majority tend to park up in a lay-by opposite the Swallow Falls Hotel and take a short path to the Falls rather than enjoying a more pleasant experience like us!

I have no formal walk leader or first-aid qualifications and the Group does not have insurance. When you RSVP for any walk, you accept that you remain responsible for your own safety at all times. You are required to respect the walk leader and be mindful of the safety of others. Please keep to the pace of the group and don’t go off ahead even if you think you know the route.
