Cwm Idwal & Llyn Idwal

Details
THIS WALK IS BEING LED FOR THOSE ON THE NORTH WALES BREAK AND IS FOR INFORMATION ONLY. THERE IS NO NEED TO RSVP AND NO WALK FEE IS PAYABLE.
This walk has dramatic scenery all the way but is also surprisingly straightforward to complete. A truly inspiring walk in Snowdonia National Park.
Cwm Idwal is a spectacular hanging valley and is a site of special scientific interest (SSSI). The mountains act as an ampitheatre around the lake. The area is a dream for students of the glacial period!
Terrain: rocky uneven paths most of the way as you would expect in a region eroded by the effects of glaciation but the paths are good and the route includes a short section along a ‘beach’ too!
The Visitors Centre is well worth popping into, there is also a snack bar & toilets and the car park fee is £3 (for four hours).
We will meet in front of the Visitors Centre and the postcode is LL57 3LZ (Ogwen Cottage Visitors Centre).
NB: The walk was recce’d on a dry but very windy day around the lakeside area (4/7/24). The route from the hotel to the start point of the walk is a scenic drive!
On completing the walk, we will consume our packed lunches and take a look inside the Visitors Centre before heading off to our next walking destination.
I have no formal walk leader or first-aid qualifications and the Group does not have insurance. When you RSVP for any walk, you accept that you remain responsible for your own safety at all times. You are required to respect the walk leader and be mindful of the safety of others. Please keep to the pace of the Group and don’t go off ahead even if you think you know the route.
