Details

Previously this walk has started from Market Weighton but on this occasion we start from the village of Goodmanham, after I was ‘tipped off’ about a ‘gem of a pub’ in the village!

Leaving the village behind, we make our way along surfaced roads to pick up the old railway trackbed, now a solid path along what was George Hudson’s railway between York & Market Weighton. At MW, we’ll have our morning break whilst making use of the facilities before we cross several fields heading towards the Londesborough Estate which at one point, was owned by GH. Having walked through parkland, the village itself provides a pleasant spot to consume our packed lunches. From here, we head across more parkland and field paths back to our start point.

Recce notes: a couple of gentle climbs but nothing that is taxing and on the re-recce there were cattle in one area of the parkland.

The walk will be led at a steady pace: not too fast, not too slow. Please be ready to start walking at the advertised time.

Walk fee: £3. No dogs please. Bring packed lunch/drink/snacks with you.

Meeting Point: outside the Goodmanham Arms, postcode is YO43 3JA. Free car park just down the road from the pub or roadside parking.

I have no formal walk leader or first-aid qualifications and the Group does not have insurance. When you RSVP for any walk, you accept that you remain responsible for your own safety at all times. You are required to respect the walk leader and be mindful of the safety of others. Please keep to the pace of the group and don’t go off ahead even if you think you know the route.
