Prehistoric Remains & Ancient Settlements – 4 miles

Details
A walk not led since 2022! An easy, pleasant wander along the embankment of the river Ure from Boroughbridge and onto the Roman settlement of Aldborough.
We start from the cobbled Hall Square (see photo), which is virtually adjacent to Back Lane car park, fee by way of donation (postcode is YO51 9PQ). Before we embark on the main part of the walk, we take a look at the impressive ornate fountain in St James Square and then take a detour to have a look at the Devil’s Arrows!
We will stop for our after-walk refreshment five minutes before the end so we can take to the (alcoholic) waters at the appealing Ship Inn in Aldborough. If anyone doesn’t wish to hang around at this point, its simply a short walk back along the road to our start point.
Walk fee is £2. No dogs please.
I have no formal walk leader or first-aid qualifications and the Group does not have insurance. When you RSVP for any walk, you accept that you remain responsible for your own safety at all times. You are required to respect the walk leader and be mindful of the safety of others. Please keep to the pace of the group and don’t go off ahead even if you think you know the route.
