Details

A pleasant little saunter encompassing villages, lakes, woodland, field paths, country tracks, quiet roads & spoil heaps!

We start the walk from Fairburn village, soon arriving on a track beside the lakes, which we view from a number of vantage points until the path comes to an end by the river Aire. Here we ascend a spoil heap, long since covered with trees and other foliage, as we take the ridge path inbetween river & lake before a gentle descent to the Visitor Centre, where we shall have our morning break.

From here, we walk along a couple of quiet roads for a short time, picking up a bridleway through woodland and across fields to the affluent village of Ledsham.

Departing Ledsham, we cross several fields with pleasant countryside views before an access road takes us back into the centre of Fairburn.

The walk will be led at a steady pace: not too fast, not too slow. Please be ready to start walking at the advertised time.

Walk fee: £2. No dogs please. Bring snack/drinks with you or you can purchase items from the Visitor Centre where there is outdoor seating. Toilets available.

The walk will be completed by lunch-time, after which there is the option to take a five minute drive to the well-renowned Chequers Inn at Ledsham, which has a car park just before you reach the pub itself on your lhs. You may wish to grab a bite to eat, I shall be doing just that!

Meeting point: Cut Road, which is off the main through road in Fairburn. There is a very small car park (four cars!!) so most will have to find a space on one of the village streets, therefore car sharing is highly recommended for this one. The postcode of the nearby Three Horseshoes pub is WF11 9JA.
I have no formal walk leader or first-aid qualifications and the Group does not have insurance. When you RSVP for any walk, you accept that you remain responsible for your own safety at all times. You are required to respect the walk leader and be mindful of the safety of others. Please keep to the pace of the group and don't go off ahead even if you think you know the route.
