The Drovers Road & Osmotherley - 7.5 miles

Details

A walk not led for 2.5 years! This picturesque walk commences along an old drovers road and a section of the Cleveland Way with lovely views across the Vale of Mowbray and the Cleveland Hills. Its very much an up-and-down walk, no significantly big hills to climb but its not gently undulating either, somewhere inbetween, so you certainly need to be comfortable with regular ascent & descent for this walk.

The walk makes use of moorland tracks, field edges, woodland trails and quiet roads. Since there are stretches of moorland walking, parts of the walk are exposed to the elements so be prepared.

START LOCATION/CAR PARKING: Sheepwash (free) car park, near Cod Beck Reservoir, on the outskirts of Osmotherley. Postcode: DL6 3AL. From the village centre, turn left up North End, go past Cote Ghyll Youth Hostel and immediately after the reservoir, you will arrive at two car parks. We will be meeting in the second (bigger) car park. The car park is a five minute drive from the centre of Osmotherley.

PLEASE NOTE: There is a lower attendee limit for this walk due to the amount of parking likely to be available and the fact the police are ‘hot’ on fining anyone who parks on the grass verges when the car parks are full. With this in mind, please only RSVP if you are serious about attending and please do car share, if possible. Also, do not turn up with minutes to spare expecting to find a parking space!

The walk will be led at a steady pace: not too fast, not too slow. Please be ready to start walking at the advertised time. There was no mobile reception in Osmotherley or the surrounding area.

Walk fee: £3. No dogs please. Bring packed lunch/drink/snacks with you. Our lunch break is in Osmotherley village where public toilets are available!

After-walk refreshment will be at the Queen Catherine Hotel in Osmotherley.

**If you wish to use the public toilets en route to our meeting point, when you get to Osmotherley village centre, turn right and the award-winning, twinned toilets are diagonally opposite the Three Tuns (the pub is on your lhs).

I have no formal walk leader or first-aid qualifications and the Group does not have insurance. When you RSVP for any walk, you accept that you remain responsible for your own safety at all times. You are required to respect the walk leader and be mindful of the safety of others. Please keep to the pace of the group and don’t go off ahead even if you think you know the route.
