Spofforth & Follifoot - 5.5 miles

NEW WALK!! A pleasant meander in gently undulating countryside linking two villages, the first hour or so is new ground for us before we pick up sections from previous walks led from both Follifoot & Spofforth, giving us an appreciation of how different walks connect up.

The walk incorporates a viaduct, an abandoned railway line, a pinfold, unusual rock formations seen from a distance and castle ruins!

The terrain encompasses woodland & riverside trails, grassy tracks, field-edge paths, pavements & quiet road walking.

The walk will be led at a steady pace: not too fast, not too slow. Please be ready to start walking at the advertised time.

Walk fee: £2. No dogs please. Bring snacks/drink for a short morning break. We will be back by lunch-time and you could purchase something to eat at the well-appointed Castle Inn but my suggestion would be to bring a packed lunch with you which can be consumed in the ‘dining hall’ of the castle ruins before patronising the pub for something cool & refreshing!

Start point: Meet at the junction of Castle Street & Manor Garth. Limited roadside parking so car sharing a good idea. Postcode is HG3 1ND.

I have no formal walk leader or first-aid qualifications and the Group does not have insurance. When you RSVP for any walk, you accept that you remain responsible for your own safety at all times. You are required to respect the walk leader and be mindful of the safety of others. Please keep to the pace of the group and don’t go off ahead even if you think you know the route.
