Newton-on-Ouse/Beningbrough Hall - 5 miles

Details
We will meet on the village green in Newton-on-Ouse (YO30 2BR) where there is roadside parking. From here, our route soon leaves the village as we head down to the river Ouse and embark on an intriguing half-mile obstacle course comprising scrubland, residents gardens, a slipway at the rear of a delightful beer garden, stiles and quaint little gates. A lot of excitement for the first 15mins, which also includes the Shell House and a 19thc. water tower.
After this, the remainder of the walk is straightforward as we walk through parkland close to the river Ouse around to its confluence with the Nidd, where we will stop for our morning break. We then resume the riverside trail to the outskirts of Beningbrough village before crossing a couple of fields to find ourselves by the lodge house at the entrance to Beningbrough Hall Estate.
We head down the driveway, or ‘coach road’, walking past the Great Hall and under the archway at Newton Lodge, the road on the other side taking us back to the village green.
We can then patronise the Dawney Arms (the one with the nice beer garden). The postcode given is that of the pub. Please note there is also another Dawnay Arms in nearby Shipton!
The walk will be led at a steady pace: not too fast, not too slow. Please be ready to start walking at the advertised time.
Walk fee: £2. No dogs please. Bring snacks/drink with you, we will be finished by lunch-time.
I have no formal walk leader or first-aid qualifications and the Group does not have insurance. When you RSVP for any walk, you accept that you remain responsible for your own safety at all times. You are required to respect the walk leader and be mindful of the safety of others. Please keep to the pace of the group and don’t go off ahead even if you think you know the route.
