Almscliff Crag from North Rigton – 4 miles

Details
PROMPT START DUE TO LIMITED DAYLIGHT.
This is a hilly walk. We traverse a number of fields and there are quite a few stiles to negotiate. The route taken is a combo of a walk from a book and bits ‘I made up’!
Having left North Rigton behind, we cross a field and have a delightful view of the A658 as our companion for a while (pavement provided!). Once we’ve got this out of the way, we ascend Crag Lane for a little circuit of Huby village, cut across fields & stiles in a steady but upwardly fashion and then ‘the Crag’ comes into view. Eventually those with the child inside us can clamber up over the rocks for a panoramic view of Lower Wharfedale - its easy to get up onto the crag but its optional. We then circumnavigate the monolith before making our way back to North Rigton via fields to the Square & Compass Inn. There’s a bit of quiet road walking too.
The walk will be led at a steady pace: not too fast, not too slow. Please be ready to start walking at the advertised time.
Walk fee: £2. No dogs please.
Start point: roadside parking on the village roads near to the Square & Compass; main sections of parking are in front of the pub and on Church Hill, one of the access roads that comes up from the A658.
You may have to park a fair way from the meeting point so allow an extra bit of time. Postcode of the pub is LS17 0DJ. North Rigton is off the A658 between Harrogate and Pool-in-Wharfedale.
Car sharing is recommended for this walk.
I have no formal walk leader or first-aid qualifications and the Group does not have insurance. When you RSVP for any walk, you accept that you remain responsible for your own safety at all times. You are required to respect the walk leader and be mindful of the safety of others. Please keep to the pace of the group and don’t go off ahead even if you think you know the route.
