Settrington & The Wolds – 6.75 miles

Details

NEW WALK!! A lovely and at times hilly walk in an area never previously frequented. We start from the picturesque village of Settrington, taking in fords, greens & bridges to then walk alongside a couple of quiet roads before delving into the Wolds landscape crossing fields, tracks, woodland trails, ponds and a string of panoramic views.

Location: Settrington is situated minutes from the A64, a short distance further on from Malton. Look for the Scagglethorpe turn-off to your right (if travelling north). After taking the turn, you are immediately in Scagglethorpe and will see our after-walk refreshment pub on your lhs. Continue on this road for 1.5 miles to arrive in Settrington. It feels as if you are about to leave the village when you eventually arrive at the village hall/sports field with the best place for roadside parking a little further on.

The walk will be led at a steady pace: not too fast, not too slow. Please be ready to start walking at the advertised time.

Walk fee: £3. No dogs please. Bring packed lunch/drink/snacks with you.

Start point: Settrington Village Hall, Town Street/Chapel Road, YO17 8NB.

Parking options: roadside parking in which case please car share to reduce our impact on the village. Alternatively there is parking at the village hall which is also home to the cricket & tennis teams. A sign outside the Hall says non-resident parking has to be pre-arranged but it also says parking costs £2.50 for non-residents! Bear in mind though, you wouldn’t want a cricket or even a tennis ball bouncing on your car from the adjacent playing areas!

After-walk refreshment: The Ham & Cheese pub (!!) at Scagglethorpe. They serve food all day so you may prefer to have a late lunch at the pub.

I have no formal walk leader or first-aid qualifications and the Group does not have insurance. When you RSVP for any walk, you accept that you remain responsible for your own safety at all times. You are required to respect the walk leader and be mindful of the safety of others. Please keep to the pace of the group and don’t go off ahead even if you think you know the route.
