Ampleforth from Gilling (East) - 5.75 miles
Details
An undemanding stroll with little in the way of ascent, although you will need to be comfortable with walking on solid surfaces/rough tracks a lot of the time.
We start from outside the Fairfax Arms in Gilling village; roadside parking, best option is to park in Pottergate, which runs adjacent to the pub and car sharing is recommended to reduce the impact on the village. The postcode is YO62 4JH.
The pleasant route through the countryside makes use of quiet roads/acesss lanes, rough tracks, countryside paths & field crossings and includes a walk through the grounds of Ampleforth Abbey.
The walk will be led at a steady pace: not too fast, not too slow. Please be ready to start walking at the advertised time.
Walk fee: £2. No dogs please. Bring snacks/drink only with you as we will be finished by lunch-time.
We pass a miniature railway and our morning break will be in a play area!
After-walk refreshment at the very pleasant Fairfax Arms.
I have no formal walk leader or first-aid qualifications and the Group does not have insurance. When you RSVP for any walk, you accept that you remain responsible for your own safety at all times. You are required to respect the walk leader and be mindful of the safety of others. Please keep to the pace of the Group and don’t go off ahead even if you think you know the route.
