Golden Acre - Harewood: 9 miles
Details
The very first walk I led many years ago!!
‘Easy’ nine miler over gently undulating terrain with a couple of short ascents. The route follows field paths & tracks, country lanes and woodland trails. Expect muddy sections at this time of year.
Highlights: assault course & play barn(!!), Emmerdale village, views over Lower Wharfedale including the viaduct and Almscliff Crag, Breary Marsh woodland and Paul’s Pond.
The walk will be led at a steady pace: not too fast, not too slow. Please be ready to start walking at the advertised time.
Walk fee: £3. No dogs please. Bring a packed lunch/drink/snacks with you.
Start location: the car park is a good size but very popular so please aim to arrive in good time, otherwise you will have to park on the busy main road (where allowed). Toilets are available just inside the Park to the right of the café (as you are facing it). Please use before we set off!! Postcode is LS16 9JY. This is the main car park on Otley Road, not the one in the woods at the back of Golden Acre park (off Arthington Road).
We will meet at the far end of the car park, at the top of the steps.
Parking charge: Leeds City Council are now charging for all their car parks and the parking fee is £4.
After-walk refreshment: Hickory's Smokehouse. This used to be known as the Lawnswood Arms but has been transformed into something much better!! Turn right out of the car park and in less than five minutes the venue will appear on your rhs with a large car park.
I have no formal walk leader or first-aid qualifications and the Group does not have insurance. When you RSVP for any walk, you accept that you remain responsible for your own safety at all times. You are required to respect the walk leader and be mindful of the safety of others. Please keep to the pace of the group and don’t go off ahead even if you think you know the route.
