Aberford & the Lotherton Estate - 5 miles
Details
A simple wander through the ancient Kingdom of Elmet, firstly along Aberford’s main thoroughfare, admiring some of the historic properties, before we venture under the A1M and pick up a quiet lane before veering off and up a track alongside an ancient embankment. At the top of the track we are in ‘no-man’s land’ between North & West Yorkshire!
Further road walking takes us to the exit gate into the grounds of Lotherton Hall where we shall have our morning break in the park area.
We’ll spend a bit of time going round the (free) attractions at Lotherton.
We then make our way out the far side of the Estate and along field paths & woodland trails. Next we traverse further field-edge paths alongside wind turbines before reaching terra firma and another pavement that takes us beneath the A1M once more.
Following a grass verge, we head back along the old Roman road - Aberford’s main street - passing some very exquisite-looking almshouses and back to the village centre.
The walk will be led at a steady pace: not too fast, not too slow. Please be ready to start walking at the advertised time.
Walk fee: £2. No dogs please. Bring snacks/drink for a morning break.
We will meet outside the Arabian Horse pub on Aberford’s Main Street (roadside parking). The postcode is LS25 3AA.
After-walk refreshment at the Arabian Horse pub.
I have no formal walk leader or first-aid qualifications and the Group does not have insurance. When you RSVP for any walk, you accept that you remain responsible for you own safety at all times. You are required to respect the walk leader and be mindful of the safety of others. Please keep to the pace of the group and don’t go off ahead even if you think you know the route.
