A walk that has been ‘cunningly’ twisted around so the start/finish point is outside a pub rather than a church!!

We traverse the gently undulating countryside within the Mountgarret Estate, a few steady climbs but nothing too taxing, we visit the villages of Brearton, South Stainley & Burton Leonard followed by an optional pub lunch, which you need to reserve a spot for (see below).

The route comprises quiet lanes, field crossings, woodland paths, country tracks & field edge paths.

The walk will be led at a steady pace: not too fast, not too slow. Please be ready to start walking at the advertised time.

Walk fee: £3. No dogs please. Bring snacks/drink with you for amorning break. There won't be a lunch break on this walk because of the optional pub lunch.

Start location: outside the Malt Shovel Inn, Brearton which is off the B6165 between Knaresborough & Ripley and also accessible from the A61 between Ripley & Ripon. Postcode is HG3 3BX. Roadside parking only. The main street is quite narrow so I would recommend parking half on the pavement to give room for the tractors to get by!

Car sharing is recommended for this one.

Lunch option: I have booked a table for 16 people at 2pm. If you would like to reserve a lunch place, please post a message on this webpage. Please note the lunch option is only available to members who have paid this year's annual membership fee (£10) prior to the event. Therefore no guests are permitted on this event.

I have no formal walk leader or first-aid qualifications and the Group does not have insurance. When you RSVP for any walk, you accept that you remain responsible for your own safety at all times. You are required to respect the walk leader and be mindful of the safety of others. Please keep to the pace of the group and don’t go off ahead even if you think you know the route.
