Welburn: Coneysthorpe & Castle Howard - 7miles
Details
Second run-out for this walk. This walk takes place in the gently undulating countryside of the Howardian Hills and includes chunks from two other walks I’ve led in the area as well as a brand new section. There are two short, steady climbs but nothing that could be considered strenuous.
We set off for the ridge above Welburn for a panoramic view of the area, taking in a few of the Castle Howard landmarks in the distance. Dropping back down to the edge of the village, we pick up country paths & tracks with our second little climb bringing us up to the end of the Estate wall. From here we head off for Coneysthorpe on a path through lime trees and on reaching the village green, we will have our morning break.
After consuming our packed lunches, we head off for a wander through part of the grounds of Castle Howard with views of some of the follies in the area before woodland trails take us back to Welburn.
The walk will be led at a steady pace: not too fast, not too slow. Please be ready to start walking at the advertised time.
Walk fee: £3. No dogs please. Bring snacks/drink for a morning break.
Start point: outside the Crown & Cushion pub, Welburn. Postcode is YO60 7DZ. NB: The public toilet at the village hall is not open during the winter months.
After-walk refreshment: pub & tea room options opposite each other on Welburn’s main street.
I have no formal walk leader or first-aid qualifications and the Group does not have insurance. When you RSVP for any walk, you accept that you remain responsible for your own safety at all times. You are required to respect the walk leader and be mindful of the safety of others. Please keep to the pace of the group and don’t go off ahead even if you think you know the route.
