A scenic & varied walk in the vicinity of the reservoir and its immediate environs. Its not a flat walk but the most challenging bit is a short, steep descent and corresponding short, steep ascent largely aided by flights of steps. The paths are good most of the way but, given the time of year, there may be one or two softer bits, in particular on the moorland section.

The walk is dominated by woodland trails, views of the reservoir and shoreline that we can drop onto at various points, the river Washburn and some moorland walking too.

The walk will be led at a steady pace: not too fast, not too slow. Please be ready to start walking at the advertised time.

Walk fee: £3. No dogs please. Bring packed lunch/drink/snacks with you. Although this is a relatively short walk, we will have both a morning break and a lunch break en route!

Start point is Thruscross car park situated along Reservoir Road. No toilets. On reaching the Stone House Inn (HG3 4AH), turn left opposite the pub into Reservoir Road and this will take you to the car park where we are meeting.

Car park fee is £3 payable by card only.

After-walk refreshment: The Stone House Inn won’t be open but the Sun Inn along the B6451 is a 9min drive away (a few mins from the A59).

I have no formal walk leader or first-aid qualifications and the Group does not have insurance. When you RSVP for any walk, you accept that you remain responsible for your own safety at all times. You are required to respect the walk leader and be mindful of the safety of others. Please keep to the pace of the group and don’t go off ahead even if you think you know the route.
