Yeadon (Leeds) + optional Fish & Chips (see below) - 8.5 miles
Details
Second run-out for this 'tasty' walk! A hilly walk that combines urban areas with the surrounding countryside in & around the Aire Valley and with some pleasant vista’s.
We walk through several of Leeds outer-lying suburbs and also venture into BD postcode areas taking in or skirting close to Yeadon, Rawdon & Apperley Bridge.
The walk contains many features en route including Yeadon Tarn, The Billing, New York Lane, Zimbabwe and the Spite & Malice Ginnel.
The route’s terrain includes pavements, access roads, fields, a variety of woodland trails, becks & gills, railway bridges & crossings as we walk along an old railway trackbed and an airport (from a distance) thrown in for good measure!
If that has whetted your appetite, there’s also the possibility of having fish & chips at the famous Murgatroyds restaurant afterwards (see below)!
The walk will be led at a steady pace: not too fast, not too slow. Please be ready to start walking at the advertised time.
Walk fee: £3. No dogs please. Bring food/drink with you, we will have two short breaks on the walk so we don’t starve before the after-walk option to fill our tummies.
Start point: Meet outside Murgatroyds in the outdoor seating area facing the A658 crossroads/traffic lights. Postcode is LS19 7BN.
Parking: roadside parking around Moorfield Road Industrial Estate that goes around two sides of Murgatroyds plus other streets too. You could possibly park at the back of the restaurant but, bearing in mind it gets busy, this should be a last resort and I haven’t obtained permission to park there. There is further parking available at nearby Yeadon Tarn, just down the road from the restaurant and there are toilets there too (but no guarantee they will be open).
Car sharing is recommended for this walk.
After-walk options: Yeadon has a number of pub, café & chippy options, subject to opening times. However, I’ll be taking the opportunity to pay a visit to Murgatroyds for fish & chips – they do provide other meals too! There is also a takeaway service.
MEAL OPTION: I’ve booked a table for 12 people at 2.30pm. If you would like to join me in the restaurant, please post a message on this webpage. Please note this option is only available to those who have paid this year's annual membership fee (£10) prior to the event so no guests are permitted.
I have no formal walk leader or first-aid qualifications and the Group does not have insurance. When you RSVP for any walk, you accept that you remain responsible for your own safety at all times. You are required to respect the walk leader and be mindful of the safety of others. Please keep to the pace of the group and don’t go off ahead even if you think you know the route.
