Copmanthorpe - River Ouse - Askham Bog: 6.5 miles

NEW WALK!! Starting from the village centre in Copmanthorpe, we traverse the railway line dodging the high speed trains to walk through a few fields to join up with the Solar System Greenway path that leads us eventually into Bishopthorpe via a riverside trail alongside the river Ouse. More pavement walking takes us past Bishopthorpe Palace and then across the racecourse to pick up suburban paths to Askham Bar. From here we take a peek around Askham Bog using the boardwalks before crossing the road and making our way back to Copmanthorpe via pavements & walkways.

The walk will be led at a steady pace: not too fast, not too slow. Please be ready to start walking at the advertised time.

Walk fee: £3. No dogs please. Bring snacks/drink for a morning break.

Start point: outside the Royal Oak pub in the centre of Copmanthorpe. Roadside parking only on a variety of roads so car sharing is recommended. DO NOT park in the car park opposite the pub as this is only a limited time car park for shoppers. Postcode is YO23 3ST.

Toilets: available at both Askham Bar & Bishopthorpe.

After-walk refreshment: the pub and the tearoom are next to each other!

I do not have any formal walk leader or first-aid qualifications and the Group does not have insurance. When you RSVP for any walks, you accept that you remain responsible for your own safety at all times. You are required to respect the walk leader and be mindful of the safety of others. Please keep to the pace of the group and don’t go off ahead even if you think you know the route.
