GROUP BIRTHDAY WALK! WE'RE SEVEN YEARS OLD TODAY!!

And what better way to celebrate than a second run-out for this walk, meaning a return to the excellent Ripon Inn set in lovely grounds with an outdoor seating area!

A walk through town & country. We venture over to view the impressive façade of the Cathedral before stepping under an archway, across the river and onwards for a saunter along the canal, passing by nature reserves before crossing over an old stone bridge and making our way via a quiet lane to the village of Littlethorpe.

From here, we head back into Ripon, traipsing through its outer reaches before reaching the delightfully-named Hell Wath where we pick up woodland trails close to the rivers Skell & Laver before more street walking finds us in the Spa Quarter, passing by the bandstand & an unusual ‘artwork’.

The walk will be led at a steady pace: not too fast, not too slow. Please be ready to start walking at the advertised time.

Walk fee: £3. No dogs please. Bring snacks/drink for a morning break.

Start point/Parking. Two central car parks namely St. Marygate & Cathedral. Max £2.60/£3 fee. If you’re planning a quick getaway after the walk, you would only need to pay the four hour parking rate so it would be cheaper. St. Marygate is the lower level car park which is attached to the upper level Cathedral cp – this is the one right behind the shops with the toilet block, where we are meeting. Postcode is HG4 1QS/HG4 1LX – dependent on which website you look at, the postcode differs!

Please note: as of 26/2, there are discussions going on about the possibility of increasing car park charges in Ripon.

After-walk refreshment: the excellent Ripon Inn, part of the Inn Collection Group (see photo). For those who don't wish to stay for refreshment, its a short walk back to the Market Square.

I have no formal walk leader or first-aid qualifications and the Group does not have insurance. When you RSVP for any walk, you accept that you remain responsible for your own safety at all times. You are required to respect the walk leader and be mindful of the safety of others. Please keep to the pace of the group and don’t go off ahead even if you think you know the route.
