Howardian Ramble - 5.75 miles
Details
NEW WALK!! A short but hilly walk in the Howardian Hills taking in the settlements of Kirkham, Crambeck, Welburn & Whitwell. Field paths, woodland trails, pavements & access roads are traversed on this pleasant little wander.
PLEASE NOTE: We cross over the A64 on a couple of occasions and in view of the fact the second crossing means walking across two lanes of a dual carriageway, you are advised not to sign up for this walk if you cannot walk briskly across the road.
REFRESHMENT: The plan is to have an extended elevenses at the Dogh café in Welburn which, if it’s a nice day, has a few tables outside as well as being a pleasant but busy café inside. You can of course bring your own drink/snacks and consume them on the grassy area in front of the cafe. The walk time assumes we will be at the café for 30mins but it may be a little longer. The café’s single toilet is accessible from outside.
Toilets: Once we get going again, there is another single loo at the village hall (which should be open in April).
Start point: The Stone Trough Inn, a little further along the road after crossing the railtrack and passing the ruins of Kirkham Priory. As you drive into the car park, head over to the left-hand side to park in the area behind the pub.
After-walk refreshment at the Stone Trough Inn.
I have no formal walk leader or first-aid qualifications and the Group does not have insurance. When you RSVP for any walk, you accept that you remain responsible for your own safety at all times. You are required to respect the walk leader and be mindful of the safety of others. Please keep to the pace of the group and don’t go off ahead even if you think you know the route.
