Cawood: Two Loops walk - 5 miles
Details
The village of Cawood can be reached from the A19 between York & Selby and also from the B1222 & B1223 via Sherburn-in-Elmet & Tadcaster respectively. It’s a short, flat walk over-and-done-with in time for lunch.
The walk starts from outside The Castle Inn, Wistowgate, Cawood, YO8 3SH where there is roadside parking.
The walk is effectively two loops so you could drop out of the walk after the first & longer section is complete, if you need/want to.
The western loop takes us past a row of attractive terraced properties & the church before picking up the flood embankment alongside the river Ouse from where we drop down to walk alongside a pond and along a couple of back roads and through fields returning to Cawood.
After a short morning break in the Castle grounds, we embark on the eastern loop, giving us views of Cawood bridge and following the Ouse in the opposite direction along field-edge paths to where it is met by the river Wharfe, which we follow upstream for a while before coming out on the B1223 just outside the village.
After-walk refreshment: the Village Tearoom, as the pub won't be serving food.
The walk will be led at a steady pace: not too fast, not too slow. Please be ready to start walking at the advertised time.
Walk fee: £2. No dogs please. Bring snacks/drink for morning break.
I have no formal walk leader or first-aid qualifications and the Group does not have insurance. When you RSVP for any walk, you accept that you remain responsible for your own safety at all times. You are required to respect the walk leader and be mindful of the safety of others. Please keep to the pace of the group and don’t go off ahead even if you think you know the route.
