Quite Challenging. Spectacular. Scenic. Last led in 2023. A good walk for those who prefer the longer treks. We begin by crossing the suspension bridge over the river Wharfe and then its a 1hr 15min steady climb up to the summit of Beamsley Beacon at 1300’, which affords us a 360 degree panoramic vista before we commence the rocky descent, ultimately passing through the hamlet of Deerstones & skirting Storiths en route to Bolton Abbey, where we cross the Wharfe for the second time (bridge or stepping stones?) and then we pretty much follow the river back to our start point.

A long climb, field tracks & paths, road-walking, moorland, stiles, bridges, a riverside trail and one fence to clamber over.

Recce notes: the temperature can be quite different on top of Beamsley Beacon. There are quite a few stiles on this walk.

The walk will be led at a steady pace: not too fast, not too slow. Please be ready to start walking at the advertised time.

Walk fee: £3. No dogs please. Bring a packed lunch/drink/snacks with you.

Start location/Parking: roadside parking on Bark Lane, Addingham (nr. Ilkley). This is a long, straight & wide residential street. Meet by the Dales Way sign/seat close to a bend in the road. The postcode is LS29 0RB.

Start time: 10.15 for 10.30am so please aim for the earlier time.

After-walk refreshment at The Swan pub on Main Street, Addingham which has a decent-sized car park & beer garden with additional parking available on nearby streets.

I have no formal walk leader or first-aid qualifications and the Group does not have insurance. When you RSVP for any walk, you accept that you remain responsible for your own safety at all times. You are required to respect the walk leader and be mindful of the safety of others. Please keep to the pace of the group and don’t go off ahead even if you think you know the route.
