Finding Common Ground: Our First Gathering
Details
244 years ago, on the very ground where we’ll gather, the Battle of Yorktown marked the end of the Revolutionary War — and the beginning of a new American destiny.
Our founders fought not just for independence, but for unity — for “One Constitution. One Country. One Destiny.”
Today, we face a different kind of divide — not between colonies, but between neighbors.
The Common Ground Project was created to bring Americans together again, beyond political lines and media narratives, in the same spirit of courage and cooperation that shaped our nation here in Yorktown.
This first gathering is an opportunity to:
- Meet others who care deeply about the future of our democracy
- Listen, share, and discover what unites us beneath the noise
- Honor the ideals our forefathers and foremothers fought for — right here on this hallowed ground
This is not a debate. It’s a conversation — one that begins with respect, listening, and the belief that we still share common ground.
We will meet at the Yorktown Beach Picnic Area at the park east of the Yorktown Pub. Please bring a blanket or a lawn chair to sit on. I will bring some snacks and drinks. Look for the Star-Spangled Banner flag — it will mark our spot. Should the weather be inclement, I will send an updated indoor location.
