Young Adults Walking Through PDX

Welcome in Spring with our first event of the season: a waterfront walk and hangout! Just like the characters in the opening scene of Portlandia, we will take a group stroll down the famed waterfront (though maybe with fewer clown costumes and unicycles). Whether you have lived in the city for one week or your whole life, experiencing the beautiful riverfront is a great way to ring in Spring and meet new faces. We will conclude with a short gathering at a casual outdoor venue if you are up for it!

Event Overview: We will start by OMSI, cross the Tilikum Bridge, head up the the westside through Tom McCall Waterfront Park, cross the Steel Bridge, and head down the Eastside Esplanade returning to OMSI. You can also join for a quick bite or drink after at the adjoining Mt. Hood Brewing- Tilikum Station (https://mthoodbrewing.com/) or other nearby venue.

About the Walk: The walk will be an approximately 4 mile loop (seem interactive map with hike details below). Going at a pretty casual pace, it about an hour and half or slightly longer. There are also plenty of places to sit for a quick breather. The walk is very scenic, safe, and pleasant. It is very flat and entirely separated from cars (including the two bridges) with zero cross streets.

Or if you want to Skip the Walk: if you can't make or are not interested in the walk, feel free to also just join for the hangout after at Mt. Hood Brewery. Keep an eye out in the discussion board for updates confirming exact time (likely around 7:15).

Getting There: Our meeting place, OMSI, and the adjoining brewery is centrally located in Portland. The location has ample parking and is directly served by the MAX (Orange), the Portland Streetcar (A/B), and several bus lines.

Join us for a casual light hike in scenic Washington Park. We will start in front of the Zoo and hike through the forested Hoyt Arboretum.

About the Event: We will near the the Washington Park Zoo right in front of the the entrance to the MAX station. From here, we will walk though part of the Hoyt Arboretum on a series of short trails eventually circling back to where we started.

About the Walk: This will be a light-to-moderate walk. It is a firm trail that is mostly flat though though there will be a few places with a modest elevation increase. It will be about 2-3 miles of hiking and should take approximately 75-90 minutes (tentative map shown below but exact could slightly change). People of all hiking levels who feel up for it are welcome, though since we are not an expert hiking group, expect us to be a little bit slower than some of your more intense Portland hiking groups.

Logistics: Meet at the entrance to the Oregon Zoo in Washington Park. If driving or taking ride-share, simply navigate to the zoo. If taking the MAX light rail, get off at the Washington Park station (Red/Blue). Finding us should be pretty easy but there will be live updates in the discussion board in the morning. We will meet around 1 and embark on the hike 10-15 minutes later.
