Films in Honor of Black History

This free event is in collaboration with POV, the award winning independent nonfiction film series on PBS. I am unable to attend BUT wanted to make sure that ya'll are in the know.

For February they’ll be screening segments from three powerful films:

• Igualada: Refusing to Know Your Place – Black activist Francia Márquez rises from rural Colombia to launch a historic presidential campaign that defies the political establishment. By espousing a different way of doing politics and championing equality, she inspires a nationwide movement that challenges centuries of exclusion.
• ***Unapologetic ***- Meet Janaé and Bella, two fierce abolitionists whose upbringing and experiences shape their activism and views on Black liberation. Told through their lens, Unapologetic offers an inside look into the movement and ongoing work that transformed Chicago, from the police murder of Rekia Boyd to the election of mayor Lori Lightfoot.
• Dark & Tender: The Big Island – In the second chapter of “Dark and Tender”, ten Black men workshop the touch and listening practices from the Chronically UnderTouched Project on the Big Island of Hawaii – interrupting the violent narratives told about them using the tool of tenderness.
