While everyone is familiar with Zion National Park, few people realize that the nearby region of St. George is a hiker’s paradise that’s not to be skipped!

On this trip, we share our favorite St. George hikes, including beautiful hiking trails Yant Flat and Snow Canyon Petroglyphs.

Day 1 (Fri) Las Vegas - St. George
Leaving Vegas at 7:30 PM.

Day 2 (Sat) St. George - Yant Flat (B, L, D)
Yant Flat! I haven't said "WOW" many times!! This remote and colorful area of Southern Utah can be reached from St George in about 1 hour. The area is exceptional for both hikers and photographers and isn't on the well traveled/photographed category of Antelope Canyon or Horseshoe Bend in Arizona. This area will reward you with the landscape images you are looking for. Constant views of Zion National Park as well as the multi colored stripes of CandyLand will keep you amazed all day. Hike is considered moderate and is a minimum of 4 miles round-trip to experience the area. Navajo Sandstone has been lifted up by the volcanic rock below and weathered into the well known domes located throughout Arizona and Utah. Brain rock or turtleback are some of the names given to this areas landscape but you might just be left speechless.

Day 3 (Sun) St. George - Petroglyph Hike - Las Vegas (B, L)
Looking for a hike off the beaten path? Try the petroglyph loop this morning, in a secret slot canyon, located off of the Gila Trail.
The moderate 2.5 mile trail (one-way) leads out into a maze of red rock formations that requires hikers to do a little light scrambling in some sections. The entrance to the slot canyon is shaded by vegetation and extremely easy to miss, but once you’ve found it, you’ll know. The straight walls narrow to about shoulder width and look like something straight out of Indiana Jones. Follow the canyon to the end and look to your right. The blackened wall is covered with ancient petroglyphs, carved by hand, by the native people who once inhabited this land.
Back to Vegas in the afternoon.
