Elixir - the most important programming language in your toolbelt by Jonathan Stiansen

Elixir is a wonderful mix of old and new. It has an established, battle hardened, VM and an amazing new developer experience.
Elixir works well for everything from embedded systems to building productive distributed web apps.
It has arguably the most robust runtime, and a uniquely good developer experience. It was created from a Ruby on Rails core maintainer, Jose Valim, and has a goal of programmers achieving a "joy of programming™" (from ruby) without many of Ruby's downsides.
You'll hear why Elixir is an excellent choice for both the developer and the business - and have time to grill me to ask about the downsides.

A bit about Jonathan:
Bio: Jono (rhymes with Bono) loves the software industry and keeps up on the less mainstream tech so you don't have to.
He's recently left working at a local startup Fillip, and is soon wrapping up his paternity leave.
He knows lots about the javascript, and React ecosystem, a good amount of theory about infra and distributed systems,
and have a deep love of functional languages like Elixir and ReasonML & Elm.
Favorite recent quote: "Programmers know all the benefits and none of the tradeoffs of most tech"
Ask me about my favorite places for coffee, beer, icecream (it's marcus), or food in the city.
