Welcome to the Remote Tech Workers of Calgary Meetup!
This community is focused on getting us up and away from our keyboards and out into the world to meet other people for in-person social and networking events.
===== Events =====
This is a new group, so what we get up to will largely be dictated by what folks want to organize. Here at the outset, I envision that we will:
- discuss the challenges and rewards of working remotely, and how to make the most of our situation while living in this vibrant city.
- talk shop, and dig into the nitty gritty of our industries or tech stacks.
- disconnect from our day jobs and webcams to go for a walk, grab a coffee, sip a beer, or spend a night remembering how to bowl so that we can show up refreshed and reinvigorated the next time we sit down at our computers.
===== Challenges of Remote Work =====
Let's get together to combat some of the challenges of working remotely, including:
- Isolation from co-workers
- Communicating effectively with widely distributed teams
- Loneliness
- Distractions at home and time management
- Feeling like you can't disconnect or that you have to be available 24 hours a day even when you aren't being paid to be on-call.
- Not having a dedicated workspace
- Lack of peer and employer visibility into achievements
- Less obvious career growth opportunities
- Sedentary lifestyle complications
